No risk for McCain, he's not going to win the black vote anyway, he could say something like: "13 years ago, O.J. Simpson got away with 2 murders.  Today, justice has caught up to him"

But what does Obama say without making whites or blacks angry?

Why should anyone care what he thinks about this? Because he's black?!

Also, people really don't seem to care about OJ this time. I doubt he'll even be asked about it.

so the Obama campaign is going to give a "No comment", while McCain looks tough on crime by cheering the conviction with the rest of the country?

that's a tad risky

yes because more people in this country are concerned about OJ than they are about the economy.....

did anyone say it is a bigger issue than the economy?  No.  so stop arguing with yourself.

I'm simply saying a friendly reporter can ask McCain to comment and McCain can state what 90% of Americans believe, "OJ got away with a brutal double murder 13 years ago, but today, justice is now being served."  And an unfriendly reporter can ask Obama the same, if Obama comes back with "No comment", then the another reporter asks Obama the same question.  If Obama still refuses to comment, Fox News pounces on it...then the ads of Rev. Wright begin to run.

More important than the economy?  absolutely not.  But it allows McCain to start connecting the dots for whatever picture of Obama McCain wants to paint.

If he's asked about it, he'll probably just say something along the lines of "I'm not familiar with all the specifics of the case because I've been focused on more important issues lately. Now here is a list of ways that John McCain is out of touch and like George W. Bush..."

But it's not about this case, it's about the case 13 years ago: "OJ got away with a brutal double murder 13 years ago, but today, justice is now being served."  Americans want to see OJ in jail, period.  The details of this case have nothing to do with that feeling.

McCain won't win the black vote you're right. He also has to not look like he's race baiting. Not so much because that doesn't work, but because it will signal that he's desparate, and it will put off moderate, fiscally conservative whites of which he needs as many as he can get.

While the American people want to see OJ in jail, I doubt they want a repeat of the drama of 13 years ago.

I agree with the above. This is 2008, not 1994/1995. OJ is a non-story this time around.

If Obama is asked about it, he can simply kill the question by spouting what would simply sound like senatorial jargon to the average Joe (i.e., our judicial system requires a jury of the people, of ordinary Americans, and that jury found him guilty [end of comment]). Or he can simply say, "I do not know the details of the case as I, like most people across this country, have been focused on the economy and the other pressing national issues of the day." In a campaign where the economy is front and center, irrelevant distractions such as OJ Simpson will not have an impact. Sorry to burst the GOP's bubble, but this ain't 2000/2004.

Besides, OJ lost any support he had a year or two ago with that proposed book entitled, "If I Did It..."

"I don't know the details of the case, I have no opinion."

Problem solved.  Jmfcst, are you serious?  He can dodge this about as easily as a squirrel on in Russia can avoid a St. Louis freight train.

Nothing, except possibly some comment about the criminal justice system.

I completely agree with Phil.  C'mon, these guys aren't going to comment on a specific criminal case.

He'll promise to pardon O.J. if he's elected.

This is a ridiculous question on so many levels... like Obama has anything to "answer" for. And nobody cares at all about OJ anymore.

But since you're so obsessed with what Obama -- being black -- thinks about the '94/'95 OJ trial, Obama has ALREADY commented on it...

No one really cares about Simpson anymore anyway, the double murderer, armed robber, kidnapper, arrogant, control freak reprobate.

May he enjoy the next 20 years behind bars.

Justice has, finally, caught up to this low life scum.

I think you guys are right about this. Back in the 90s, the Decade About Nothing, people could get torn up over stupid, inconsequential bull**** like this. Now that we're actually facing very serious problems, far fewer people care. Notice that public interest in his trial was virtually zero this time around, and while the verdict will probably dominate the news cycle for a day or two, it will be all but forgotten by the middle of the week.
