Kathleen: ... Who's the candidate with the right economic policies? We know what you're political leanings are, but as an economist, what do you see Larry?
Summers: Oh, as I look at the issues, I- I think Senator Obama is much closer to the mark. I think he's proposed the kind of further fiscal stimulus we need to create jobs and get the economy going. I think he's prepared in a much more aggressive way to think about reform of the financial system to avoid these kinds of problems in the future. I think he's got a serious vision on how to proceed on healthcare that potentially will take very large burdens off a very large number of businesses. I think that compromise on energy is probably right, but Senator Obama is really hugely focused on the major technological changes that we need. So I would be more comfortable with the path that he would set. But you know, some people will disagree with me obviously. But I would just hope that the voters pay close attention, because I think the economic issues are as large now as they have been at any time in my memory.
