I liked that they once again used "Don't HOPE for..." in the message, but the ad isn't as good as the last one.

Weirdly enough, that reminds me of this Kerry ad:

Anyone notice how were both addicted to Oil (according to Bush) and we need more Oil (according to McCain). Imagine a drug addict going "I'm addicted to cocaine... the solution is MORE COCAINE"

This ad would be ineffective. Well at least its ineffective to me because he's only been a senator since 2005.  Obama could put an ad detailing how much the price of a gallon of gas has increased since Clinton left office or since McCain's been in congress and on McCain's probably non-record of doing anything to plan for this energy crisis. Then he can highlight the need for new clean renewable forms of energy that has been the consensus for the past few years.

It isn't BS unless Obama does a 180 on drilling.

...except for the fact that offshore drilling (or any new drilling) won't come online for over a decade at which point gas prices will be $7-8 at least, probably more

This campaign has gotten so dumb to the point where it's almost unbearable.

This is a great ad.  It's highly authoritative, if it came from a man's voice it's be corny even, almost like a movie trailer announcer.

This ad is really personal though, it casts Obama's passionate fanbase as cultish and perhaps even Nazi-esque, if that's not too blunt.  In addition, it argues more obviously against "hoping" for anything, instead suggesting that the voter should settle for a pragmatic, less exciting solution.

This ad doesn't make sense at all. McCain's been in congress for like 30 years. Obama's been there for 3.

So McCain is blaming Obama for the high prices of gas when he has been in the Senate much longer than Obama and until recently had the very same energy views that he is blaming obama on for the high prices of gas....

You can have a new coastal rig built from scratch and up and running within 5 years, inculding a year for exploratory wells.

Oh, well excuse me!  Then I guess drilling for oil is the answer... I mean, what's 5 years in the volatile oil market?

We might as well spend those five years being productive and finding long term solutions rather than subsidizing oil companies and putting a tiny bandaid on a gangrenous hole...

I understand that the energy crisis needs a multi-faceted approach that does include more oil in the short term... but this whole idea of "oh we'll just drill ourselves into an epiphany" doesn't add up.

First of all, kudos for understanding the issue (in bold).

Secondly, as I've stated numerous times here, we're going to need an increased amount of oil than what we are currently consuming now for the next decade, no matter what happens.  But we also need more nuke plants and other forms of energy generation in order to meet mid-term and long-term needs.  Neither party can pull their heads out of their backsides on this issue for some strange reason.  Now, to be fair to both of them, the Republican's aren't "drill and only drill" and the Democrats aren't "no drill at all," yet they are both putting their party's interests before the national interest . . . yet again . . . which means they are intentionally hurting you just so they can have their political chip.

There should be an immediate lifting of coastal drilling bans with leases for 15 years.  Put the leases up for auction to the domestic companies (to keep taxpayers money in house), so the oil companies put money into the economy up front.  Use that money as subsidies to companies to start building nuke plants.  Giving the oil companies the 15 year mark allows them the time they need to increase our domestic supply while we transition away from our vehicles and homes that burn oil and natural gas and to nuclear plants to power the homes and electric cars (sorry to disappoint people, but current 'electric cars' run on oil and natural gas that power the electric plants).  At that point, the leases would expire, giving the oil companies a 5 year period to cap the wells and remove their rigs.

The process is so common sense, it is embarrassing that there is no one on Capitol Hill that is expressing it.

Exxon is spending nine times the amount they're buying back stock than they are on exploration.

There must be a reason why they want to privatize themselves. Could it be because they forecast their industry has no future?

No one understands that in five years everything will change for the worse.

Another lying attack from McCain. I don't see why so many people still approve of him.

Am I the only one who disagrees with the message but think that this ad cuts deep (and could be effective)?

After Kerry got swift-boated by obviously lying ads, anything is possible.

You could pretty much apply that quote to you liberal socialists who want more government as a solution to our problems.
