A while back, I was randomly browsing wiki and I saw a page with a map showing the percentages of canadians in each province in favor of joining the US. Most provinces were 15-20% but Quebec had 33%. Seriously, why does the province that'd fit in the least well in the US want to join us the most?

This was back in 2001.  Things have changed, I'm sure.

An excuse to become independent? However if that poll were asked now many Quebecois would shun the idea of having President Bush.

The Québec subsample would have been about 300-400 persons. What kind of MoE does that give?
Anyways, the poll's question was "annexation of Canada", not of "your province". The idea that, if Québec became independent, the remainder of Canada (or, more realistically, the western provinces) might join the US was floating around quite a bit in the 90s - some of the Québec respondents may have been thinking along these lines.

I could also see the poll being foolishly made solely in English, which would have skewed the results in Canada.

Because they think America will be more tolerant of disgusting, arrogant, fat, slimy, cheese-eating, wine swilling, perverted, semi-people, that wear berets, have ugly mustaches and, jabber incessantly, probably post too much on the Internet (especially since the U.S. hasn't kicked me out).
