And China, Vietnam, the role he played in the Cold War and of course a ceiling on the price of gas.

Yes Nixon is the man of this decade no doubt.

I'm surprised Woodward and Bernstein didn't make the cut.

Sorry, but that distinction is not Nixon's to claim.

Then who does it go to?

As much as I admire Nixon, he DID create the distrust of government and we have not recovered from it. Compare how people felt about our government before and after Nixon - it's sad but true.

As for me - I voted for Deng Xiaoping. Opened the door towards globalization.

He did not create it.  Distrust in the government began to plummet during Johnson's administration.  Obviously Nixon severely exacerbated the issue, but he is not the one that created the distrust.

Also note that trust in government fell to its lowest point in 1994.

And it was at its highest in 1966 under LBJ. Not much of a correlation, as the differences between the trend line and the actual data clearly shows.

This is almost now spiltting hairs here but the poll shows a drop from an all-time high. Look where it it dropped after 1970 - that is were the distrust really becomes public. Granted LBJ caused the decline but Nixon will be known for setting the trend of distrust.
