I, hereby, withdraw my endorsement of Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party nomination. This follows on from comments I made yesterday:

Hillary Clinton, who has the demographic edge over Obama, right now, and my fear is that this is about to get worse Sad

The more and more the African American vote rallies for Obama, the greater the 'backlash' Sad from whites and Hispanics. If Obama fails to secure, at least, 30% of the white vote in SC, in a three way fight, that may well be all too ominous of things to come

I'm not enamored with the Clinton's right now. Bill, as a former president, shouldn't even be aggressively campaigning for Hillary in the Democratic primaries. He should have retained his neutrality until the Democratic Party settled on its presidential nominee

My one great hope, however, is that Democrats can unite behind the eventual Democratic nominee but given all the 'nastiness', I won't hold my breath

As 2008 dawned, I was optimistic about Democratic fortunes this fall but what with Democrats becoming all too polarised among themselves and the likelihood of a McCain GOP candidacy, I'm just not feeling that way any more Sad

As of now, I'm uncommitted in the Democratic primary. My reason for withdrawing my endorsement are essentially three-fold:

1) I strongly disapprove of the role Bill Clinton, as a former president, is playing in his wife's campaign

2) I'm dismayed, despite the fact that Sen. Barack Obama has done everything he possibly good to keep race out of the campaign, that comments made by Sen. Clinton has swung African-Americans heavily behind Sen. Obama and he is now at great risk of being, and very wrongly, 'ghettoised' Sad as a 'Black' candidate

3) I'm deeply concerned that should Hillary Clinton be the Democratic Party presidential nominee then she'll unite the Republicans better than they can unite themselves

And if a hawkish, somewhat socially conservative, 'Democrat' like myself can support Obama, any Democrat can Smiley

I don't dislike Clinton and would, failing Obama, endorse her; while McCain is just one staid and tired old man, who is, frankly, eight years too late. Bush has done the damage Sad, which a President McCain might, and a President Gore would, have avoided. It's absolutely untenable for me to even think having another 1972 moment, when I'd have endorsed Richard Nixon over George McGovern

Speaking of mom, she says That old man [McCain] would rather take her [Clinton] on than the young lad [Obama]

And having just turned 68 herself, she reckons McCain is too old

Well, I'd been increasingly leaning towards Obama since I was forced to withdraw my endorsement of Clinton three days before the SC primary

I'm sporting, albeit belatedly, a D-GA avatar to celebrate the fact that in my ancestral state a plurality of white men (48%) and whites in my age group, 30 to 44, (47%) voted for Barack Obama in the Democratic primary

Sen. McCain continues to enjoy the 'favored' Republican status I have bestowed on him ... for the time being at least. He will not get my endorsement for President of the United States, that much is certain. It's 2008, afterall

I find the prospect of a President McCain tolerable but not desirable. Eight years too late. It's as simple as that Wink

Sen. McCain no longer enjoys 'favored' Republican status. The Hawk is finished with McCain. Finished

The Hawk endorses the presumptive presidential nominee of the Democratic Party Sen. Barack Obama  for President of the United States and Leader of the Free World Smiley

When should I expect to receive my ballot paper to vote for this "Leader of the Free World" you speak of?
