Here in Pennsylvania, we have a little scandal concerning the state's House Democratic caucus. To be fair, the investigation is still ongoing and our Attorney General makes it clear that this might not be restricted to the House Dems. Anyway, this little scandal is called "Bonusgate." It involves state paid employees being paid on state time to campaign for the HDCC. It's mostly confined to involvement in state legislative races but it turns out that these activities helped out of esteemed U.S. Senator's - Bob Casey - campaign in 2006.

In 2004, these state employees were instructed to challenge signatures for Ralph Nader to keep him off the PA ballot. Then, in 2006, came Carl Romanelli - the Green party candidate who wanted to run for the U.S. Senate. Seeing Romanelli as a possible spoiler, the state Democrats took the offensive and instructed state employees to, yet again, challenge signatures.

Casey's spokesman (who also ran the 2006 campaign) claims that they were unaware of any such activity.

This scandal is becoming a big deal here in PA. It would be a shame if it hurt Bobby's perfect image! Unfortunately for some of us, it probably won't do much damage.

I am gonna predict it doesn't do anything to the golden child. Also, if those campaigns didn't have the signitures, they didnt have the signitures. Nothing dirty about it, but you know that.

I think this will hurt the Democrats in PA overall this year, if only to the extent that they can't do as much as they have.

However, I'm also going to predict some long term problems for their chief prosecutor, AG Corbett.

The fact that state employees were paid to do this activity on state time is wrong. That's my point.

I think it only hurts Dems in some legislative races. I think it actually helps Corbett.

We had a very similar scandal here in Madison a few years back... Both parties were involved though, which resulted mainly in a bunch of leadership purges... and jail time for both the Assembly minority leader, Senate majority leader and Assembly speaker...

It was pretty sweet actually, both parties in both chambers really cleaned up their act
