why would she need to pick a black person? its not like they won't vote for her if she ends up defeating their savior Obama. They won't vote for McCain or any other black man, for that matter.

But they might not vote at all.

Gov. Deval Patrick (MA)
Rep. Artur Davis (AL)

I can't think of anyone else.

Yeah, but Harold Ford Jr. is a much better candidate than Wilder.

and has held it with dignity and respect.

walter mondale from your beloved state of mn wanted mayors feinstein, bradley or cisneros for his ticket in 84.

Mondale in 84. That campaign is exactly the model to follow.

And there's no doubt that if he did he would've won.

You use this fallacy frequently by the way Walter. Usually in this format though:

You: bad idea
Me: That's a bad idea.
You: You love John Kerry, and he did that.

I don't have to think every single decision by every single person I like was a good one, especially if it wasn't successful for them.

Outside of Obama, the list of qualified potential black Democratic Vice Presidential nominees is woefully short, lacking in substance, and extremely uninspiring.

You can probably rule out the entire Black Congressional Caucus.

I cannot see any former Clinton black cabinet secretary up to the challenge.

Governor Deval Patrick, the highest elected black official at the moment, besides Obama, has his hands full in Massachusetts as you say, and does not have at this time any particular record of accomplishment.

The only name I can come up with is Mayor Frank Jackson of Cleveland, OH, a well educated, well spoken, and well respected Mayor, however, clearly lacking in any statewide or national experience, which seems to be a major criteria for a VP candidate.

However, Jackson probably has more talent than many of the Vice Presidential candidates who have run for the office.

Considering the rarity of Democratic blacks in positions of power, Clinton choosing some random representative or mayor would seem incredibly cheesy to everyone.  It would just be a snub to Obama, which might have satisfaction to Clinton but it would cost her everywhere else.

McCain is Mr. Experience.  Both Democrats will need an experienced VP to slightly offset their image.

Jim Clyburn, House Majority Whip? He at least has an actual leadership position.
