Absentee voting begins today for the May 6 primary.
The campaign of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beverly Perdue sent a short note to supporters today reminding them that they can request an absentee ballot starting today.
In North Carolina, you do not need a reason to request a mail-in ballot.
To do so, you must send a written request to your county Board of Elections with your name, home and mailing address, party affiliation, date of birth, phone number and signature. If you are unaffiliated, you must specify which party's ballot you want.
The request must be received by April 29, and the ballot must be returned by 5 p.m. on May 5.
In some counties, voters may also cast early ballots at one-stop voting sites in the weekends leading up to the primary. Check with your county Board of Elections for more information.
