I like Nickles. I wouldn't mind him as VP.

Way too far right. And if McCain needs any help in the south or middle west he's already in big trouble. And for the millionth f**king time, no one cares so much about someone outside their state they'll change their vote to a ticket just due to him being on the BOTTOM of it.

...and they had states like Florida in mind. It can help candidates.

What specific demographic is Nickles going to boost turnout in that'll help Republicans specifically in the areas mentioned?

Not exactly a "demographic" but he helps among conservatives wary of John McCain.

I agree.  Nickles would excite the right wing base.  But he would not be as vulnerable to criticism as someone like DeMint, Inhofe or Coburn would be.

DeMint could be attacked for championing legislation that would make it a crime to employ homosexuals in jobs where there is contact with children.  (S.C. legislature)

Coburn could be attacked for saying doctors who perform abortions should receive the death penalty for murder.

Inhofe could be attacked for -- well -- you know.  Dinosaurs on Noah's Ark.

Nickles is a rightie.  But he's not as brazen about it.  Unless there is something I dunno about him...

Owens looked promising to me, from a Republican perspective.  But then someone schooled me on his past tax increases.  I was unaware.

That's why I value this board.  I learn so much.

I think he would have made a great choice for old Mitty Boy had he won the GOP Nomination. Nickles would excite the Conservative base in the GOP, though I think there are better candidates out their to be McCain's Veep.

I'm inclined to say that he has been off the stage for too long to be an effective VP.  There are other conservatives like him who haven't been retired for 3 years who would make a good choice.

Because Republicans would never go for a VP who's been out of office for 4 or more years.....like George H.W. Bush, Jack Kemp, or Dick Cheney?  Wink

They could go for him, I just don't think he will be all that effective.

I honestly have no idea why being out of office for a few years makes you "less effective".
