Alright people.  I like both of them.  I trust McCain on Iraq, immigration, and free trade, but I like Clinton more on domestic policy in general.

So who should I support?  At this time, I'm leaning ever so slightly to McCain.

Ready, set, go!

P.S. Please no flaming like "McCain is fascist" or "Hillary hates black people."

Do you hate "activist judges legislating from the bench" or fear to turnover of Roe v Wade?  The judiciary angle is another place to consider.  Bush has had a major influence on the bench, so if you have an opinion on that it could strongly influence your vote.

Perhaps running mates, particularly for McCain if he may actually not run for re-election (I would doubt that).  If you are a Dem and like McCain seeing him more toward the center you could either see a definite right-winger VP pick as a sign of a McCain swing that way or as an isolated gesture to the farther right.

Or just pick who you would want to invite to your BBQ and have a beer with.

A democrat-controlled Congress will limit any moves McCain might make on the right, but wouldn't restrict a Clinton White House. In terms of checks and balances, for this reason it may be better to support McCain.

From a foreigner's perspective, McCain's the better bet - for the same reasons you say you like him.

McCain would do more than Clinton to advance a progressive agenda in America. McCain is essentially a moderate pro-life, pro-war Democrat. On immigration, global warming, torture, taxes, and gay marriage, McCain is to the left of Ben Nelson and other Western Democrats.

His views on these issues will help move the issue debate in America back towards the middle. As a liberal, I'm positively exultant that Americans will choose between a liberal Democrat (Clinton/Obama) or a moderate Democrat come this November.

From a strategic and policy perspective, McCain's the man for you.

McCain would also halt the GOP's deft strategy of wedge politcs. When Clintbama is attacked for a balanced opposition on immigration, he/she can tie McCain to the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill. This will effectively negate the potency of the GOP's top wedge issue.

I may expound on that point in a later thread...

John McCain is similar to Adolf Hitler, while Hillary KKKlinton is in a league of her own.

Ebowed's post is sensible and agreeable. I commend it.
