An article in today's Washington Post:

Tax Burden Shifts to the Middle

This is what Kerry should be campaigning on!
He's never going to get anywhere trying to out-macho Bush on terrorism.

I think he should talk about both, really.  While this is important, I think that the issue of terrorism is too big for Kerry not to talk about.  Were Kerry to focus purely on the economy it would be very easy for Bush to accuse him of evading the topic of terrorism and people are not likely to enjoy that thought.

Kerry has pounded on the issue in the primaries, but I haven't seen much of it now.  Of those in my signature, only Joe Hoeffel has hit on hit.  Allyson Schwartz and John Kerry need to emphasize these issues stronger.  I have a reason for picking all three campaigns, but Allyson needs to emphasize the economy to win Northeast Philly otherwise Melissa Brown will outgun her on Section 8 housing and likewise Kerry or Bush/Cheney/Ridge will set the tone for terrorism.  Like Bill Clinton said "It's the economy stupid."

Haha. No liberal media, right?

From the New York Times: In addition, the report gave Republicans support for their contention that tax reduction had brought some benefit to people in almost all income categories.

Again: The report also gave Republicans support for their contention that tax reduction had brought some benefit to people in all income categories. Continued: People with the bottom fifth of income, for example, averaging earnings of $16,000 a year saw their effective tax rate drop to 5.2% from 6.7%. Yet because lower and many middle-income families have been paying very little federal income tax in the first place, those in that bottom fifth of earnings received an average tax cut of only $250.

Remember, this is the New York Times.

The CBO report continues to kill the BS.

So now John Kerry's running around trying to characterize the CBO report as evidence that the tax cuts shifted the burden of taxation to the middle class. There's just one problem: the CBO data show precisely the opposite effect. The tax cuts actually made the tax system more progressive. The highest 20% of earners now pay a larger share of federal income taxes than they would have without the tax cuts.

It's really stupid to try to make it sound like a tax CUT is hurting the lower or middle class, especially when it lowered and eliminated the payroll tax all together for millions of low-income Americans.

Yes, the rich pay a disproportionate share of the taxes. So they get a disproportionate cut. Common sense, people.
