The fact that some people are honestly saying McCain (or any Republican for that matter) is baffling.

And for the record, the media can say "the surge is working" all they want, it doesn't mean jacksh!t if the public doesn't believe it, and according to the polls, they don't.

I share your consternation.  But much of it has to do with the news media's insistance on portraying "the surge" as a stroke of genius.  Rather, it is -- at best -- a return to the level of violence from a year or two ago.  Big deal.

But the media, generally speaking, love this war.  They love McCain.

In the long run, the longer a war lasts, the more successful it should become to be perceived in order to maintain the same level of support.
