This week, Chris Matthews of MSNBC placed our campaign in the top three... "On the Democratic side - I say, and this may surprise you, that Joe Biden is now the third best bet for the nomination. I'm hearing a lot of buzz about him from people who pay attention."

What do all of you folks think?  Who in the top three is Joe beating?  And why?

Well, Edwards is obviously in the weakest position of the top three, so if anyone, it's him.

Agreed.

That poll that showed him at 10% or so in South Carolina really surprised me, but the question is: can he hang on until then?

He is perhaps the best candidate the Dems have, which isn't saying much, but at least he has the ability to win states like Ohio and Missouri decisively, depending on the GOP nominee.

Women seem to like him, too.  I met a girl the other night during a happy hour that said he was "hot".   haha. Go figure.

Actually, he isn't that implausible. Biden isn't polarising (and corrupt) like Hillary, totally inexperienced and immature like Obama, phony like Edwards or immature and flip-flopping like Richardson. In fact the Dems could do a lot worse.

Biden isn't beating Edwards in any way shape of form. Sorry Happy.

I'd love to see it, but I doubt it. If he's displacing any of the top three, it would have to be Edwards.

Biden is probably my second favorite on the Democratic side but his mouth gets him in trouble too much.  I can't see him winning the primary or the general.

Biden can beat Delaware Republicans, and that is about it.

It is kind of a sad commentary that all of the most qualified candidates are the ones being written off as second, third tier. Biden, Richardson, Dodd are all considered losers.   Same thing happened last time with Graham who was a Senator and a Governor for a big swing state (FL).  I am not sure if it is agism or what. This campaign the only candidate who climbed his way up (without buying his way up) has been Huckabee. But it seems to me that the days of a bunch candidates battling it out and the one with the best campaign wins are over. After a year we are still talking about the same group of higher name recognition candidates from the beginning for the most part.

They would have no sound bites, though, meaning they would get terrible ratings. Sad Sad Sad

Have you not heard Biden in a debate?  "Rudy Giuliani's sentences consists of three things, a noun, a verb, and 9/11"  Now is that not the best sound bite of the campaign?

I agree.  But what do I know?  Chris Dodd is my guy.

I think candidates should dip into their coffers and pay me a small stipend NOT to endorse or support them.  My record sucks!

Kerry
Bradley
Clinton in 1996 (well, okay, I got one right)
Tsongas
Simon
And Bob Dole in 1984 -- my first year of eligibility...when I was a Repub.

If we were electing the next Henny Youngman, then yes.  Otherwise, um, no.

I actually agree that Biden could be stronger than his polling numbers would indicate.  The oblique endorsements of his opponents and his strong debate performance should put him at the top of the second tier.  a 4th place seems likely, but 3rd would be a surprise that would put somebody on the ropes

Biden in third place is a definite possibility. I couldn't see him much higher than that, though.

That's nice to know, but if that's the only thing he does in a debate than no. And stop being a Biden hack already.
