If Rudy Giuliani wins the Republican nomination, is there any chance he would pick Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina for Vice President?

Please discuss.

Of course there's a chance. Why wouldn't a socially liberal mayor from NYC pick a an anti-abortion conservative from the South as running mate? Sanford seems like a pretty strong pick for VP.

Possibly, but Sanford's is not someone who would reassure the social conservatives.  While he gives lip service to the social conservative positions, his focus has been on making government smaller and less expensive. (I won't say he's a fiscal conservative because some of his proposals have been penny wise but pound foolish.)  I hope he doesn't get the VP nod, mainly because I want no chance of having to suffer with a Governor Bauer.  I do not like Bauer and I'm not alone, and the GOP would be wise not to select Sanford as the VP candidate for that very reason.  Bauer as an incumbent governor would likely be a lock for the nomination, but he would be about the weakest GOP candidate for governor in 2010.

I've heard that this is Giuliani's top choice for VP if he were to be the nominee. He's young, very conservative, and from a southern state. Many of his campaign insiders have said this is the guy he is strongly leaning for.

There's a very good chance if Giuliani managed to win the GOP nomination, he'd select Sanford. Opposites attract, Giuliani's a Northeasterner whilst Sanford's a Southerner, Giuliani supports Abortion, Sanford dosen't. He'd be the perfect one to counterbalance Giuliani. If he dosen't select Sanford, then Giuliani may end up picking former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee. That could be a strong ticket too.
