Neither is immoral.

I would rather have a lottery, since participation is voluntary. The proceeds of a lottery should become a part of the state's general fund; I see no need to set it aside for any particular program, as is commonly done.

^^^^^^^^^ At least Immoral in the general sense of the word.

Of course a tax on food (and all essential items o\c) is utterly ridiculous in the first place.

uh.  brtd, you should understand this.  by taxes on food, i meant taxes on *unprepared* food...ie groceries.

eating out is more of a luxury (believe me, i know first hand)

to make it simpler for you to understand, since you seem to be having some trouble, when i said a 'food tax' i had in mind food that would be covered under food stamps.

Sure, but a fast food tax would hurt the poor just the same. Did you ever stop to consider why no one is backing you up and defending that idea?
