There's a rumor going around here that the Crown Prince (hair to the thrown) has died of AIDs.  Probably just a rumour due to his not being in the public eye that much lately, but I thought I'd post just in case it comes out in the next few days.  My litle chance for a scoop.  He's in his 50's I believe and has been known as a lifelong ladies man..

The Thais take their royal family seriously, in a way Britain hasn't since Queen Victoria.  Their King is revered (opebo can comment on this, I'm sure); he has served as a political actor through the decades, during both democratic and authoritarian regimes - and a shrewd one, in addition to having the usual veneration for royalty.  I bet his children are held in lesser reverence, but are seen in a far more positive light than, say, Prince Charles is in England. 

Plus you've read TBO, right? Remember what happens to anyone who challenges Thai interests there? They don't exactly live long...

So I recommend care and caution whenever you discuss their royal family. Especially if someone online knows your real name (assuming you aren't really of the Race).

DenialX is correct, many THais are unnaturally fond of their old rightwing oppressive potentate.  However very few intellectuals are. 

An update on the rumour - I heard that he appeared in at some public function - an awarding of degrees at a University.  They wanted to quell the rumour.
