The story of the Trapps:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapp_Family

The real story is quite interesting.

Only one member is still alive at 85.

Much of the Movie is based on history.

George did leave Austria-Hungary rather than serve in the military because he didn't like Nazism.

I found a YouTube video of their great grandchildren

There's a restaurant 3 blocks from my house in Seattle called "Rhein Haus", it used to be called "Von Trapp's" but the Von Trapp family estate made them change the name.

Haven't seen it in over thirty years. I can't remember much about it. I remember it lasted forever but kept me from doing school work.

When I was growing up, all I ever heard about the movie was that it was so sappy, cloying, and overly goody two-shoes that it was unwatchable. That was long before I ever did watch it, and once I did, I realized it wasn't all that bad.
