It's been demonstrated that CNN and MSNBC and a bunch of newspapers are NOT credible sources on Palestine. That's what GMac doesn't get. Your "credible sources" are massively biased and massively downplay a lot of stuff that's happening. That doesn't make it okay for pro-Palestine sources to be inaccurate, but it doesn't make GMac wiser for blindly trusting Unreliable Source A over Unreliable Source B.

Another side point: news channels and newspapers are only more reliable than social media if they use their resources to seek out the truth and report it. Biased cover-ups outweigh resources and competence when it comes to "reliability".

At this point I think GMac only thinks sources that confirm what they believe are reliable

Do you really have such a binary brain that you think the NYTimes and random accounts on social media are at equal levels of credibility?

Reliability is a spectrum though, not a binary. CNN and MSNBC mat be unreliable at times, but it's pretty ridiculous to act like they're anywhere near as unreliable as TikTok and X

People would probably be less wed to lies and conspiracy theories if Blue Checks didn't feel the need to make combatting "disinfo" their whole M.O.

A big reason why certain conspiracies, like QAnon, have grown so big is the attention given to them by mainstream outlets.

Or if the Blue Checks were actually as unimpeachable as they claim to be. Fauci claiming masks didn't work as a ploy to get people to not use them in the early stages of the pandemic opened a massive can of worms to not trust him or other voices that are promoted as official arbiters of truth.

He wasn’t lying when he said they don’t work.  He lied later on because they were a good shiny object to placate people with.

When it comes to the things CNN and MSNBC et al want to lie, mislead or downplay about, they would be rated on the spectrum nowhere close to the middle. On other topics, different story. It's all about the donors.

This really is not true.

It is simply not true.

The kinds of disinformation and lies you find on social media are leagues beyond even the absolute worst of MSNBC/CNN.  It's just a completely different planet.  It's insulting to compare the two.

Alternative media is generally worse than the infotainment news networks in pretty much every conceivable way. The fact that this is even a controversial statement is pretty concerning. "News" accounts on social media will literally upload footage from different countries that was taken years ago and claim that it's of an event happening somewhere else right now. As evil as any of the infotainment networks are, they (including Fox) could never get away with stuff as brazen as what you see on social media.
