Absolutely deserves credit for liberating Bangladesh in 1971 but is clearly a Massive HP overall . Her actions during the emergency were completely disgraceful and evil in every possible way and her economic policies were disastrous too.

The other two “Iron Lady” Leaders(Golda Meir and Thatcher) were clearly better leaders than her and when it comes to the latter I would argue it’s not even remotely close

Preferable to Modi, but that's a subjective thing; I guess my approval of her fopo resolvedness (from an Indian POV) and position as someone left-of-center affecting my views decides where I stand on that. In general has generally huge negatives and huge positives, with the latter being less numerous and earning her a clear net HP rating through their failure to equal the scales.
Still better than Rajiv, who was an utter disaster. Far inferior to Rao, and clearly worse than Vajpayee. Her economic policies had bright points but were an unnecessary deviation from the existing policies inherited from Shastri and Nehru. And better than Desai mainly because of the latter's utter incompetence.

HP, but I sympathize with her in the context of...well, what these late statesman thought of her. *ahem*

Quote
"We really slobbered over the old witch," Nixon told Mr Kissinger of his meeting with Gandhi the previous day.

"While she was a bitch, we got what we wanted too," Mr Kissinger said. "She will not be able to go home and say that the United States didn't give her a warm reception and therefore in despair she's got to go to war."

And in case you thought they didn't otherwise have problems with Indians in general...

Quote
Indians are "a slippery, treacherous people," Nixon said.

"The Indians are bastards anyway," Mr Kissinger replied.
"They are the most aggressive goddamn people around."
