Thoughts on the 1916 Easter Rising?

Today (Easter Monday), Ireland celebrated the 108th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, one of the pivotal events in Ireland's fight for independence.

The threads on this subject are old, but I thought I'd re-start of the conversation.

My thoughts: overall it's unsurprising that the IRB rose up at that point. If I was Irish back in the 1890s-1910s I likely would have been a Home Rule supporter and not a true "rebel" (my politics aren't radical, I suppose - Parnell suits me more than De Valera), but after the British completely fumbled Home Rule and ultimately "suspended" it, it's not surprising that many Irish were fed up.

IIRC the Uprising didn't even have majority support but the British reaction by executing all the leaders did cause a wave of sympathy.
