How would you rate the eight major Western countries (defined as countries with a population of more than 40 mio. and not including Latin America) on a scale from 1-10 in terms of how committed they are to helping Ukraine?

United States, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland

I'm relatively pessimistic, so I'd say

Poland 8
UK 6 (seems to have declined)
France 5 (despite Macron's tough talk)
US 5
Germany 5
Canada 3
Italy 3
Spain 2

US, Trump presidency 0

Not really my impression tbh. I think Canada is definitely too low there as well.

People think Poland is very pro-Ukraine (which is somewhat true if you look at aid as a percentage of GDP that they've given so far) but they also stopped arming Ukraine over a trade dispute, so they lose many marks for that.

US and Canada have both contributed about 0.3% of their GDP on arming Ukraine - it's not bad, & they are both definitely amongst the top contributors due to the aggregate size of their economies, but they can do a lot more.

In comparison to their economic size and geopolitical power, UK and Germany have definitely done the most, but Germany loses a mark for trying to force Ukraine to negotiate. So I guess UK would be the most pro-Ukraine country.

Finland and Poland come to mind.

Poland certainly has one of the lowest percentages for those who are actually pro-Russia (even Law and Justice hardly ever went there) though that isn't quite the same thing.

Why isn't France in the top of the list?

Macron suggested the use of western soldiers for direct combat against the Russians. Other leaders didn't do that.

most likely disingenuous grandstanding for domestic politics reasons and not a lot of support for it in the general public
