Well, after that $8.25 an hour job petered out just a week after it started, and after those two higher paying prospects with Farmer's Insurance and Northrop Grumman petered out, I was disappointed to say the least.

I've been hitting personnel agencies up like crazy this week.  Monday, I went to Olsten Staffing in Oklahoma City just north of the State Capitol by 2 miles and they have set me up an interview with Feed the Children doing clerical work today at 1:30.  This job would pay slightly more than that $8.25 an hour job, but not a whole lot more.  I can't remember if my representative said $8.50 an hour then $9 after I go permanent, or $9.50 an hour going to $10.  Either way, it would go permanent by the first of September if not before.  Its still not much, but its better than the $0.00 an hour I'm making right now.  The only problem is its a 31 mile drive from my house, 62 miles round trip.  I live in far eastern Oklahoma County, 5 miles west of the Lincoln County line and the job is 4 miles east of the Canadian County Line, just 3 miles north of the Oklahoma City Airport.

I should be home between 3:00 and 4:00 this afternoon.  I'll let you know how things go when I get on tonight for my nightly routine.

Is the pay scale really that low in Oklahoma?  I thought it was bad enough here.  You can go care for elderly people in their homes with no college for $9.50/hr.  You can work at a nursing home for $10.50/hr and they'll pay for your CNA training and you get free health care to boot!

No, the cost of living is just really low, second or third lowest in the nation to South Carolina and Houston.

Believe me, we take pride in our low cost of living.  That's why a lot of businesses are starting to choose Oklahoma City to set up shop.  One major example is Dell.
