Had an argument with a tankieish insta follower about this last year. He said it was safer to be gay in Moscow than Mississippi. He has changed his views a bit since but it's still hilarious to think about.

I would say that the GOP is extremely anti gay, so this person may have a good point.
Not only that. Don't forget how popular the pro-Putin former POTUS is.

The GOP still has homophobic elements but they're nothing like the Russians lmao. Over 50 GOP house members and over 10 senators voted to enshrine ssm in the Constitution. There's still a societal panic over some trans stuff, gender wars, what it means to be masculine and feminine etc but to say it's safer to be gay in Russia is laughable. You can literally go to jail for holding your bf's hand or displaying a pride flag.

And Trump likes Putin because he's a strongman. I actually think he finds homophobia a bit distasteful himself, though he is more willing to be anti trans. He also likes Kim but no one would suggest Trump supports nationalizing the means of production.

I wasn't implying that it's safer to be gay in Russia than in Mississippi. My point was that there are a lot of anti gays in this country, including Johnson.

By the way, we have an openly anti gay moderator here and nobody seems to be concerned about that.

There are, but they are a shrinking minority and they skew old.

Of course, but Johnson got a majority, so there is still a problem.

Anyway the point of this thread is about Russia, not the US.

Who said there wasn't? The argument was about whether it was safer to be gay in Russia of Mississippi.

Nobody is arguing that, at present, it is safer in Russia.

While the specifics are obviously different, this is the same thing Republicans are trying to do here: target LGBTQ people as a distraction for their own horrible failures and abuses.

If you see an ad on Grindr for "free Smirnoff Peach Lemonade with any airfare to Moscow," DON'T FALL FOR IT, GUYS! It's a trick! A very tempting trick!

Actually it doesn't belong here. I can't move it to the international board because I am not a moderator.
I can change title. So I will.

Posting it here was a mistake. I guess I'm not perfect after all. Devil

That closet case in the Kremlin will ultimately pay in blood.
