One thing I have consistently noticed in every election since 2020 is that the early mail-in voting is a massive advantage for Democrats in every state.

When the early vote results come in, it's something like 88%-11% in favor of the Democrat. This means on election day, Republicans are playing catch up, and it's hard to beat 3 months of voting with one day.

It seems Donald Trump has trained the GOP base to believe voting by mail is akin to committing a crime, or "voter fraud". This is clearly a severe hamper on their chances of winning. Trump has managed to voter suppress the Republican base.

Why are they still so averse to voting by mail?

A big factor to consider with voting by mail is that people who are still worried about Coronavirus (and thus are more likely to vote by mail) very heavily lean Democratic. To make the case that this is a disadvantage for the GOP, one would have to show that these people who are choosing to not vote by mail are also not showing up on Election Day.

The more compelling case I have seen made for GOP woes is that Trump has attracted a large number of low-information voters who are personally loyal to him and don't really bother voting if he is not on the ballot. These people may have a personal distaste instilled into them for voting by mail, but they probably wouldn't have voted this year or last year regardless.

Republicans are unable to come to terms with the possibility they can be wrong, let alone actually admit they were wrong. It's the sort of brittleness that comes from building everthing on lies - nothing can ever be questioned, because it all might come tumbling down.

Because Trump doesn't give a sh!t about the party and would rather keep kneecapping them spreading this crap than give up his scapegoat and admit he actually lost in 2020.

Paranoia is hard to break. A lot of Republicans don't trust that their ballot will be counted unless they physically put it into a box at a polling place.

Because they decided that conspiracy theories were more important to them than military ballots.

Boulder just had a mayoral election and when I was campaigning around and talking to people I don’t think I heard coronavirus mentioned at all. Most people who voted early said they like the ease of it, being able to decide at home where you have access to information, and that (in Colorado) it speeds up the reporting. The only people worried about Coronavirus at the polls are agoraphobes and those with autoimmune disorders.

Sort of? You get mailed a ballot but there’s polling places. In fact when I went to voted and then went with a friend to the polling station I anecdotally saw as many dropping off their ballots in person to the station as I did going to vote by machine. You can also mail it back or put it in a drop box. Or you can be like me and go to the polling station early and vote in person (I voted Thursday). In the mayoral I think around 1/3-1/2 voted the day off the election. Don’t have the exact numbers yet.

It's really mostly in the midwest and parts of the northeast that this trend is still relevant. In parts of the South and west, republicans are pretty much already fine with mail in voting.

Because Republicans aren't members of a party anymore but of a cult.
