How many who want Fred Thompson as president actually want Fred Thompson as President or do they really want Arthur Branch?

Are there really people out there that still think that he won't run? Thompson coming out and saying we should assist Iranians in overthrowing their government should have confirmed it. He wouldn't be saying such things if he intended to just remain as the DA on Law and Order.

If he is running, he should announce soon. The longer he waits, the more skeptical I will get.

It's probably better that he waits. Let the current field eat each other up and he rides in as the party savior.

I don't think he's going to run anymore.

Given the complicated system, it takes time to put into place the necessary organization prior to an announcement.

If you look at the announced candidates, you will see they took months (and in some cases, years) before they announced.

McCain just had his formal announcement last week.

Further, I suggest that Fred is waiting (prudently) for Rudy to get lots of publicity.

Now, a variety of surveys have indicated that Giuliani's campaign peaked in the polls in early March, and has been eroding since then.

My prediction is that he will announce near the end of June.  This will allow Romney, Rudy, and McCain to spend two more months trying to one-up each other, Gilmore to point out why the top three aren't conservatives, Newt to give a few more speeches (and to see where he's going with his message), and Brownback/Huckabee to rise/fall in the polls.  That would give him a better understanding of the playing field and he can adjust his message accordingly.
