We need to reform the jailing system......but not like this!

This is a very sad turn of events for our justice system. These people will learn nothing at all and will jump back into society waiting to be re enetered into thier candy land for bad deeds. Ugh...

It's not a bad way to raise money - but allowing them to work, have phones, and a computer is going too far.

It disturbs me to think that regular jails are worse than the room in which the girl is pictured in that article!

We should make all jails much more comfortable and eliminate violence within prison.

Obviously the people in question - with offenses minor enough to qualify for this accomodation - shouldn't even be in jail.

While I would, in theory like to eliminate prison violence, I am absolutely against making prisons more comfortable. The whole point is that they are a punishment and ought to be quite uncomfortable.

Prison should be: A cell with a bed and a toilet, nothing else. You can go out for a certain amount of time a day for exercise and fresh air and there should be a rehabilitation center in the jail. That's it, they're in jail, they're supposed to be being punished, they don't need anything else.

Uh, the only thing that seems bad about this is being able to leave jail. That totally defeats the purpose of being locked up for a crime. I really don't see why prisoners shouldn't have decent living conditions if all they did was committ a minor offense. Being locked up for a few weeks with no ability to do anything is bad enough.

What is with the vindictive attitude, fellows?  What difference does it make if they have a nicer cell, etc?  Remember, crime is caused by their owners, not by these powerless poors.

If there is a 'point' at all to prison it is simply to remove dangerous people from society.  Of course in practice they are merely a way to browbeat the poor into submission.

In case anyone just glanced at the article - this is a jail for well-to-do white collar criminals.

If I were to make a joke about it I suppose you could call it a "republican" jail.    While a poor drunk driver gets thrown in a cold dank cell, a rich drunk driver can get accomidations which though not 5-star (which is hyperbole in terms of the article) is quite a bit more comfortable than your typical overcrowded jail cell.

At the very least, they should  have these individuals pay the cost of warehousing both themselves several of their poorer inmates in poorer quarters in exchange for such treatment.  At best - throw them in with the regular inmates.  Remind them that justice is blind, and that being wealthy does not make one above the law or subject to preferential treatment.
