Good. All these Democratic billionaires should focus more on local races where they'll get more bang for their buck and help rebuild the party.

It's not exactly a secret that he wants actual allies for when he runs for office next time. And this is one very productive way to obtain them, as Bloomberg similarly learned then quickly squandered.

This is a surprising, but welcome, development. Good for him.

Say, what has Tom Steyer been up to speaking of billionaires who should be putting their money where their mouth is?

It's too bad he lost. California needs more YIMBY moderates in office to fix the mistakes and excesses of the NIMBY progressives who have been running the state (into the ground).

Seems to honestly be a pretty similar political profile to Bloomberg, but maybe a bit more socially conservative.

Kinda sad that the Republican Party has driven people like him and Meg Whitman out.

In an interview with POLITICO on his plans, Caruso pledged to throw himself into the five California congressional districts President Joe Biden won in 2020 that are now held by Republicans.

I wish Dems would stop the tunnel-vision and make Calvert's seat a top priority. I've long thought that it has a better chance of flipping than Kim's seat, maybe even Steel's.

Billionaires should not be buying elections, but opposing that is hopelessly idealistic in the US so at least a Democratic billionaire is doing it well.

If he can finally help at least contributing to dislodging Calvert, Garcia, and/or Valadao; I'm all for it.

Excellent! I really want Will Rollins and Derek Tran in congress.

I still wish he had won the LA mayoral election (please don't shoot me).

You all really need to read the article. He's intervening explicitly, per his own words for "pro-business" candidates. He has no plans to fund or help progressives. His intent is to hijack Democratic politics far more than it is to be a team-player.

It's an attempt to buy allies so he can take on Karen Bass in 2026. There is nothing altruistic about his plans whatsoever. We're talking about a guy who was giving to the very same "extremists" he claims to be so worried about until just a few years ago.

Where you are absolutely right is that this kind of pay-for-play politics is ethically and morally wrong.

Freedom move.

Anybody who wants to help should be welcome, no matter whether it's some senior on social security donating five dollars or a billionaire. I don't think it qualifies as "buying an election" as long as there's no specific reward for the donor. Also, not always the candidate with more money wins.
