The EU, Canada, Japan and UK have had a carbon tax for years. It raises revenue, doesn't affect economic growth and lowers carbon emissions! By a lot!

If the US was to put a carbon tax, it could raise up to 310 billion a year! Perhaps 1.7 trillion over 10 years! And it would make American made products more competitive at home and abroad compared to Chinese goods! Just for reference, universal pre-k in the US would cost 200 billion over 10 years.

Apprently, President Biden considered doing a carbon tax with BBB but was dropped with the expectation that Joe Manchin wouldn't support it.

Historically, it was a bipartisan idea. Even John McCain's 2008 platform called for it

Because then oil companies would not have as much money, which is more important than anything else.

It’s a great policy but subsidies are way more popular.

This is what happens when special interests have outsized influence in public policy.
