Movie director. His most acclaimed films were The French Connection (won an Oscar) and The Exorcist (won a Golden Globe).
He directed two movies that featured gay characters in prominent roles: The Boys in the Band and Cruising. Most gay people have very high regard for the former (if they've seen it), but all gay people hate the latter. Friedkin himself has said that TBitB has been one of his favorite movies he ever made.
