https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2023-08-18/california-gop-abortion-same-sex-marriage-platform-trump-desantis-scott

A rebellious campaign within the California Republican Party to break away from its historic opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage is dividing the party weeks before planned appearances by former President Trump and other GOP White House hopefuls.

A proposed platform overhaul, which could be voted on at the state GOP’s fall convention in Anaheim, is a remarkable break from conservative dogma in the state that nurtured Presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon.

“It’s a seismic shift but it’s a shift born out of practical necessity. Look at what’s happening not just in California but in much more conservative states, realizing antiabortion, anti-same-sex marriage stances are no longer tenable,” said Jessica Levinson, an election law professor at Loyola Law School. “I think it shows their acknowledgment that the sand has shifted underneath their feet.”

I'll believe it when I see it.

It doesn't matter because McCarthy wants SSDI people under 62 to work for food stamps that hurts the R party in CA

The problem is the minimum wage has been stuck at 7=25 an hr and  even if you make 15 you aren't guaranteed 40 hrs or a 30K salary

That's why there are Labor shortages the 30 not 40 he work week like they are looking for school bus drivers that's part time e same with McDonald's or Walmart you get full time during the Xmas season that's it

You can make 1500 in SSDI, Foodstanps and Medicare

As I said the problem is inheritance wealth, we need to do both raise minimum wage and pass reparations

I would rather California Republicans stay opposed to these things so that they stay irrelevant.

I doubt it, but dropping their opposition to gay marriage would probably make sense for them politically. Abortion I’m not so sure. California is one of the most pro-choice states in a mostly pro-choice country, but if Republicans stop opposing abortion as a party, that could cause some problems for them with the base. Abortion is such a hot button issue, with pro-lifers more likely to make it a litmus test than pro-choicers.

I'll believe it when I see it. It would be a good move for the future of the party to do so. The electorate dying out may be opposed to abortion and gay marriage, but I suspect younger voters are the opposite.

Hard to see this happening since the two biggest issues on the right as of now is abortion and the LGBT reprsentation. Hard to see their voters accepting this and I dont think it is the recipe to electoral sucess in California.
