Secession is a disgusting term used to stop individuals and groups from leaving a country they have no connection to. The right to self-determination is absolute and should be defended by any nation that believes in a free society. This means in simple terms: whenever the people of a particular region, whether it be a single village, a whole district, a state in a union or a confederacy, a minority group segregated from the rest of the country, or a series of adjacent districts, make it known, by a leader(s), that they no longer wish to remain united to the state to which they belong at the time, but wish either to form an independent state or to attach themselves to some other state, their wishes are to be respected and complied with. This is the only way to avoid an international or civil war.

A nation, therefore, has no right to say to a province: You belong to me, I want to take you. You belong to me. You cannot leave under any circumstances. Once our nation is born, a region cannot decide to leave due to irreparable differences.  A province consists of its inhabitants. Humans who have homesteaded land, built a community, a culture, a faith, a way of life, and a nation of their own. If anybody has a right to be heard in this case it is these inhabitants.

No people and no part of a people shall be held against its will in a political union that it does not want. The south has always had a subculture that is strong enough to warrant a true homeland for its people. Southern heritage is important. The good people of the south deserve the chance to pursue their own identity separate from an authoritarian regime that focuses on preserving an untenable status quo. Any Conservative or Federalist that disagrees should not be considered an ally of property, freedom, and tradition.

Likewise, liberals can't make a real claim to a peaceful world while rejecting the right to self-determination.
"Liberalism knows no conquests, no annexations; just as it is indifferent towards the state itself, so the problem of the size of the state is unimportant to it. It forces no one against his will into the structure of the state. Whoever wants to emigrate is not held back. When a part of the people of the state wants to drop out of the union, liberalism does not hinder it from doing so. Colonies that want to become independent need only do so. The nation as an organic entity can be neither increased nor reduced by changes in states; the world as a whole can neither win nor lose from them."- Ludwig Von DeadPrez

I have comrades and brethren across Atlasia, but my people in the South must come first. The South has something to say: We are leaving. I will follow my people. Let my people go. I do not want to fight. I do not want fire a shot. I also don't want anyone forcibly associate in a divided country without a true identity. I want the Southern Heartland to be able to decide for itself where we should go.

I just ran into this while looking for something else. Here's my two cents:
