Sub-Saharan Africa failed because of bad government, authoritarianism, corruption, idiotic economic policy, ethnic tensions stirred up by colonial authorities and, later, African politicians, and the affinity of nations to subscribe to the rule of the so-called "Big Man". All brought the downfall of a continent. If we look at a nation that was ruled well and has had a constantly democratic government, Botswana, we see a nation that is on par with developing nations in South-East and East Asia as well as Latin America.
Government by these "big man" leaders for the course of decades led to the sorry state the Africa is currently in not any natural inability for Africans to govern themselves.
