Trump and DeSantis were both wrong. It's clear that those Governors, R or D, who chose to have swift shutdowns, big retailers who chose to demand that people wear masks, Big Business and the Armed Forces that demanded that employees get inoculated, and churches that shut down rather than become spreader sites got it right.
Michigan started as the fourth worst state for COVID-19 and ended up ninth... thank you Governor Whitmer.
You can ask me what I would have done as President. First, I would have treated COVID-19 as an enemy potentially as dangerous as any in American history. I would have pushed a propaganda campaign against COVID-19. I would have pushed a nationwide shutdown instead of having the perverse experiment that super-quack Donald Trump had.
Second, I would have gotten money to buy stationery and postage stamps (with anti-COVID messages on pens, pencils, and stamps as propaganda) and told people that friends and relatives would love to see your handwriting as a personal touch. We can get together without spreading COVID-19, can't we? Maybe we could revive the old habit of correspondence. Third, I would have promoted the simplest of means of fighting COVID-19: hand-washing for twenty seconds with soap and water. How long is twenty seconds? Count to thirty. Or treinte, which I would also do.
Fourth, I or others would have debunked the quack stuff... chloroquinone, Ivermectin... you know. Trump was pushing it.
