im not used to defending the governor.  but i have to say im angered by the backlash he is receiving after he announced he would be working more of a 'flexible' schedule in order to spend time with his wife who is suffering from depression.

he should be applauded, not scolded.

obviously, im a very political person.  it is fun to to ridicule patrick for the car and the expensive drapes.  but this is a serious issue, involving two human beings.  those who are criticizing him over this are showing a complete lack of decency.

FYI, according to SUSA, Deval's approval rating has falled 20%.

February 2007 - 63% approve, 25% disapprove
March 2007 - 43% approve, 47% disapprove

I would be depressed too if I were married to Deval Patrick.

I still find it odd how Massachusetts has a black governor.  It seems like such a lily-white liberal state.

What better way to sate the lily-white liberal guilt than to elect the most lily-white African American they can find to the post of Governor of the Commonwealth?

His last name though, is very Irish-sounding.

As for his first name, the accent is on the second syllable. Before then I was calling him "Devil Patrick"

Mass is 9% black, and 89% white (including Hispanics). Not quite lily-white, but whiter than average. (Then again, most states are whiter than average as the concentrated black populations in the South skew the rest of the country's demographics.)

WOW - 20 points in a month?!? That's really bad.

I appalude his actions for his family. I feel his pain. My wife sufferes from depression too and I wish I could have a flex schedule like that.

I must've called Strom Thurmond, "Storm" and Jim DeMint "Jim DEM-int."

I also wonder what makes Mr. Moderate moderate.

In regards to the topic with which this board is concerned, I bet depression among female spouses of male candidates and elected officials is quite high, unless you're HRC who was using her husband's sub-mediocre presidency to eventually follow him in office and revive the Goldwater movement.  When your family is subjected to one member's ambitions, it may cause some sense of isolation, powerlessness, etc.  Then again, it could be something else.  Hoping for a complete recovery for Mrs. Patrick, though.

He'll be fine..... All this controversy is only going to help him focus on his job over the next 4 years.
