I've had groceries, door dash, and pizza delivered before that I didn't order. Just don't open the door if you're scared, jeez.

The end result of rampant "stand your ground" laws was never going to be anything other than this.

As someone whose done my fair share of gig-work on the side to make spending money and save, I won't lie that this thought has popped into my head multiple times... Especially when delivering to places in more rural parts of DFW.

Stand your ground and castle doctrine are both insane...And even if you're going to have those laws there should be clear cut-outs for people who make innocent mistakes like this w/o showing any intent to harm the homeowner who shouldn't just be able to treat anyone near their property as a 'fair-game' target, my Lord... SMH.

This is why people don't want to do those jobs anymore...

And America is a gun sick country...

Don't knock on doors anymore

The USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc. should stop doing that

Police should stop too

And in this instance the police aren't even making an arrest because they say that no laws were broken.

America is at the point where due to guns, you risk your life delivering items to people's homes.

Some people's solution? Loosen the gun laws! Put more guns in more peoples' hands! Unreal.

It really is pathetic. I wish that the 2nd Amendment people would just admit that they are in favor of this continuing if it means that they don't have to do any paperwork to collect their weaponry. I wouldn't say I could respect that, but at least they wouldn't be lying.

You can't fire your weapon at certain animals on your property without a permit in Florida but it's open season on humans.

From the originally linked article:

"D'arville told the outlet that he and his girlfriend wanted to press charges, but a detective told them they could not. 'He said since they didn't break any laws or do anything unlawful, they couldn't do anything because we were on their property,' D'arville said."

There's no way that it's legal to shoot at someone for just walking on to your property.

These stand your ground laws are just an excuse for violent people to shoot whenever they want to and then claim self-defense.

It's cases like these where I feel like the "I need a gun to defend myself" argument really falls apart. If people are treating any potential situation as one where they need to "defend" themselves, far more lives are unnecessarily lost than saved.

This was frankly uncalled for.
Yes, the castle doctrine is valid. But some level of responsibility rests on the homeowners to use it wisely. And while guns are tools and good ones indeed, if you injure people with them through actions like this, you can be charged and held criminally liable depending on specifics.

This Florida, though.
Reminder that the events surrounding George Zimmerman took place in Florida.

You'll find a lot of these stories. There are upwards of 100 million American gun-owners. In a population that large, there's always going to be things happening.

I don’t think Florida deserves the right to self autonomy as a state as this point. The federal government needs to fix the failed state!
