Quote
A lesion on President Biden’s chest removed during last month’s annual physical exam was a basal cell carcinoma, and all cancerous tissue was successfully removed, his doctor said Friday.

...

The president previously had non-melanoma skin cancers removed before he was elected to the White House. First lady Jill Biden earlier this year underwent Mohs surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., to remove two skin lesions that were later determined to have been basal cell carcinomas.

...

The cause of ending cancer has been personal for Biden, whose son Beau Biden died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46. The president has talked about ending cancer throughout his campaign and presidency, saying it would be a priority for him

...

The president’s health is likely to be under close scrutiny over the next two years as he is expected to run for re-election. Biden would be 82 at the start of a second term if he were to win re-election, and Republicans have frequently questioned whether he is physically and mentally up to doing the job.

Basal cell carcinomes usually don't do metastases and mostly aren't a big deal.

I wish the President well. Cancer is a vicious disease and I'm glad they appear to have caught this early.

From a political side I wonder if this is the real reason he seemed to have delayed announcing for reelection. He and his team wanted to make sure this was taken care of.

Would explain the fact that everyone acted like he was 100% going to run immediately after the midterms with an announcement expected earlier this year to whispers of Democrats preparing behind the scenes if he were to retire. And now it seems like people around him think again no chance he retires.

Basal cell carcinoma isn't really cancer, I mean technically it is but it's not what you usually think of as "cancer."  It's very common, doesn't spread, and nobody dies from it.

Lots of unsavory commentary on Twitter today. Unfortunate.

Unfortunate, but sadly to be expected (before any blue avatars pounce on me I am not saying this sort of behavior is only limited to Republicans - Democrats can be quite nasty when there is unfortunate news about a prominent Republican as well, though factually not as many of them are, and it’s not quite as severe in malignancy).

Can confirm. My old man had it about five or ten years ago. Idk. It thankfully never spread, he got it removed, and he's been fine ever since.

I was hoping this thread title meant that he got Marjorie Taylor Greene expelled from Congress.

I’m pretty sure Stuff like this (skin cancer) is very common amongst fair skinned ppl. My dad had this, my grandma had this many years ago, both are still alive and well

This is not uncommon at all. I know a number of people that have had lesions removed, people far younger than the President. One time it was actually something I noticed on someone, a mole that looked noticeably different. It did turn out to be a cancerous lesion and it was removed. If you notice something like that on someone, be sure to tell them to see a doctor ASAP (the same applies if you or someone else notices something like that on your own body). If you get it removed early, it's usually no big deal. You just have to get checked out periodically (from the people I've known, every 6-12 months, though everyone is different).

Although seems to have been detected and removed early with no further impact, I hope it won't affect his reelection plans. But his health should have the maximum priority. Really hopes Biden still has many fulfilling years ahead of himself. No matter when he leaves office.

I'm glad he's okay but I understand why he kept it hidden from the public for as long as he did.
