He will not rule out running for future public office including U.S. senator or mayor of Los Angeles when his term as governor expires in January 2011.

Boxer would probably beat him, but it'd be closer than Mountjoy or whatever joke they always put up can make it.  And Villagrossa might be governor by Jan '11, so LA Mayor isn't a disaster although it's probably unrealistic.  Not that I know much about LA Mayoral history to be able to say if a Republican could win it.

Well Richard Riordan was a Republican mayor of LA not a million years ago.

He'd lose both races. LA county voted for Angelides, and that's with the Republican outer parts of it.

I really couldn't see Arnold as a senator.  Seems way too much a drop of water in a pond sort of thing for his style.

Well, Riordan was mayor of LA fairly recently, and I really see no big differences between those two.

If Arnie wanted to run for Senator, he'd probably be better off waiting until 2012, when Feinstein is most likely to retire since she would be close to 80.  Beating Boxer would be pretty difficult.

The subject recently came up in an issue of the San Fran Chronicle, in which the main issue was the "Right's" frustration (lead by McClintock) with Arnold.  I think he'd have a fair shot, but Feinstein may well retire, leaving the Governator with a great shot in 2010.  Taking this into account, it would still be very difficult for a Republican to win a Senate seat in California, but who knows how popular (or unpopular) the Governor of California will be in 2010.

Whatever. Arnold's ego exceeds his ability to beat Barbara Boxer.

If there is an open Senate seat, Loretta Sanchez might run.

The only reason Arnold crushed Angelides by so much was that he focused on the issues, and the so called media doesn't give a crap about the issues. They care about bullsh**t like charisma. Their influence would be much less on a partisan US Senate race. California does not want McConnell to be Majority Leader.

I didn't think Angelides focused on the issues, All I heard and saw Angelides trying to do was tie Aronold to Bush.

Arnold wouldn't beat the left-wing's darling Boxer, but he could potentially defeat Feinstein. I could also see him as LA's mayor.

Boxer is a good fit for the state, and won't lose. It'd be fun seeing Arnold brought down to Earth.
