But have you ever known someone who has been raped, murdered, mugged, etc... I do to all of the above.  It changes your perspective on things when they aren't abstract ideas anymore.

I've been mugged, I live in a part of town known for robberies, and I once had to call the cops because of some rapist on the floor above me.

Well, I know several people who have been mugged... I was almost mugged myself, once, but luckly I had my Gerber knife to brandish, so he backed off after that... just like in the animal kingdom, they won't attack if it means they might get hurt, cause they want to have enough enrgy left for the next victim.  I called the cops, they never foudn him, of course, because the Erie police are sh**t... I had half a mind to take him down right then, but I let the standoff last until he backed off, I hope he didn't get anyone else, but I can't know for sure.

A close friend of mine was raped a few years back... she is doing better now.  She has a steady boyfriend again, which is good, because she had an almost deadly fear of guys she didn't knwo for a year or so afterwords and understandably so.

The girl I know who was murdered... I didn't know her that well... I met her at a bar and we traded IMs and I woke up and read the paper one morning and found out she was dead.

There have been a a few other rapes aroudn my campus though, college girls I didn't really know and there was another murder... didn't know the person though.

P.S.  The Erie PD are to busy beating up my random black friends who didn't do anything and giving tickets to people who have too much tint in their windows to catch dangerous criminals... or any criminals at all.

... I would never in a million years want to walk through Camden, Newark, West Philly, or certain parts of Brooklyn or the Bronx without an armed guard.

The University of Pennsylvania part of West Philly isn't bad but that is obvious.
