'Song of the South' is effectively banned from distribution in the USA. Go try and find a decent DVD of that film that's in American format. Smiley

The same is true for Ken Park, but neither film is banned. In the case of Song of the South, the distributor who holds the rights, in this case Disney, simply opts not to distribute it, while Ken Park has no American distributor.

In an interesting turn, Disney still makes references to characters from Song of the South (in Disney World there is Briar Rabbit's something or another) but refuses to distribute the movie due to its racial overtones.  I remember seeing it as a child and always feeling disturbed by it but not being able to explain why.

Warner Brothers has censored cartoons too. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censored_Eleven

I know quite a bit about the classic cartoons you are referring to, and I must note a special distinction.  Song of the South and the Censored Eleven (there are many more than eleven actually) are not banned by law, but by their respective owners in the USA.  It would be perfectly legal for Disney to release Song of the South on DVD if they so desired.

I actually remember when I was young, I had some children's books and tapes about Briar Rabbit. I wondered what movie he was in because I had never seen it.
