You're conflating two distinct things.
I may very well be. I’m not an economics buff of any sort - in fact I don’t understand it very much - which is why I usually avoid posting in threads like these. Couldn’t resist this time, and it’s quite possible I wrote something incorrect/misguided.
The difference is basically that inflation is a general increase in price levels of goods and services in an economy; higher inflation does devalue the currency of that country because it's purchasing power has declined. However there are plenty of other interacting factors (such as globalized inflation) that also play a role.
