Jesus Christ. Right-wingers are still saying deaths attributed to COVID are deaths "with" COVID? You really don't trust science/doctors do you?

I know you want people to think in collectives, but "science" is not a monolith, and believe it or not, there is great of diversity of opinion among "doctors."

Sure, but what does that have to do with whether doctors are falsely attributing deaths to COVID? Republicans have been claiming that for 2.5 years now -- hasn't time run out on that conspiracy theory?

I think a lot of the "stop testing" rhetoric (which I agree with) is due to not wanting to have every plan be dependent on a five-day isolation if you happen to get it.  Covid isn't causing widespread death anymore, so there's not really an argument that it's meaningfully different than all the colds and flus we've dealt with our whole lives.  Can you imagine someone telling you to stay home because you had a cold three days ago (when you now feel fine)?  Most people I know who have gotten covid this spring or summer have said that they felt bad for a few hours to a day...not worth quarantining ourselves over.

Roughly 400 people die of COVID in the United States every day right now. That's 3,000 a week, 12,000 a month. Correct me if I'm wrong (this is purely rhetorical, I know that I'm not wrong) but last time I checked more than 10,000 people didn't die of the common cold each month. So your argument is weak and trivializes COVID.

That being said, I actually agree that isolation of infected people souldn't be mandatory... only "recommended" and supplemented by a mask mandate for those who don't strictly isolate while infected. But my reasoning for arriving at that conclusion is different: COVID is going to stay with us forever. True herd immunity, even with the available vaccines, hasn't been achieved yet and will likely won't be for the forseeable future. Neither has COVID actually become endemic yet.

Nevertheless, the fact that normality won't be achieved for years to come underlines the need to find ways for people to pursue their jobs for instance, particularly when they're working in the critical infrastructure or are  unable to work from home and show no noticable symptoms while infected. Wearing a N95 mask and trying to keep a 1.5 m distance to other people should be sufficient and doesn't require a strict isolation at home IMO. Same probably applies for activities like going for a walk through a park while being infected. Doing so in an infected state while wearing a N95 mask and trying to maintain a certain distance might actually be safer for others than strolling around cluelessly with an undetected infection and thus not wearing a mask at all etc.

But don't pretend that COVID is "just like a cold" or some similar bullsh**t. 400 people die in the U.S. of it every day. Like a I said, total isolation is not viable anymore IMO. But you can endure wearing a N95 mask for seven days or so when you feel it is necessary to leave your home in that time. I don't care if you drop the mask-wearing completely in your life following that period. But use some common sense and be mindful of others, for christ's sake.

I imagine those 400 deaths are mostly "deaths with covid", not deaths from covid.  The fact that we're testing for it in hospitals means that deaths get counted that should not be counted.  And, regardless, 400 deaths per day is less than what we see in an average flu season.  So, if you support those sorts of policies for 400 deaths a day, you're saying that you support them permanently for the flu.

Jesus Christ. Right-wingers are still saying deaths attributed to COVID are deaths "with" COVID? You really don't trust science/doctors do you?

Frankly, they've lost our trust.
Fauci claimed early on that masks were ineffective and then did a 180 on them.
Slavitt claimed Cuomo had done a great job and said the nursing home scandal was just a silly "right wing meme".
Feigl-Ding constantly fearmongers for Twitter clout.

So forgive me for not trusting them.

So there's a nation-wide conspiracy between all doctors in all hospitals in all states to wrongfully classify cause of death? Doesn't seem worth losing your medical license to lie about it to me

Why are you asking? You were giving off the impression that you were certain that all of the deaths are "from Covid," not just "with Covid," and that only a kook would believe otherwise. Are you not actually sure?

Why does it have to be a "conspiracy," anyway? Why can't it be a set of guidelines that hospitals are following that differs significantly from how deaths related to flu or common cold viruses were counted?

Isn't it normal to trot out the President's physician for a Q&A with the WH Press Corp?

President Joe Biden tests negative for Covid-19 following rebound case

Quote
President Joe Biden has tested negative for Covid-19 but will remain in isolation pending a second test, his physician announced in a letter Saturday.

"The President continues to feel very well," Dr. Kevin O'Connor wrote. "Given his rebound positivity which we reported last Saturday, we have continued daily monitoring. This morning, his SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing was negative. In an abundance of caution, the President will continue his strict isolation measures pending a second negative test as previously described."

Biden has not left the White House for 17 days, after initially testing positive for Covid-19 on July 21. After taking a five-day course of Pfizer's antiviral drug, Paxlovid, Biden tested positive for a rebound case of Covid-19 last Saturday and resumed isolation. There are currently no events on his public schedule for the weekend.
