Take a look at this 5-min video of the 1994 Massachusetts Senate debate between Mitt Romney and Ted Kennedy, and see if you notice any differences between then and now.

You mean Ted Kennedy was pro-choice?

Now, seriously, to be fair to Romney, McCain is just as big a flip flopper, and Giuliani appears to be headed down that road, too.

I think we'll be seeing a little more of that video in campaign ads.

This is why it bugs me when people like Naso call him the major conservative candidate in the race. McCain is far more conservative (as is every other possible Republican candidate except Giuliani).

Not anymore. Are you familiar with the Mitt Romney that's running for president?

The issue is not necessarily that Romney is liberal or conservative; just that he seems to periodically redesign himself to appeal better to the voters of whichever office he's running for at any given time.  And that just begs the question: what does he actually stand for?

Joe, you've it the nail on the head as regards Romney. Thank God for the savvy Smiley amongst us

The sincerity-deficit should slay Romney

Politics is full of flip flops.

Look at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Last month, he supported troop increases...one month later he is against?

Well everyone knows he's an ass but he also isn't trying to run for President (thankfully).

If they show anything from Romney's debate with Kennedy, I hope they run the clip where he said something to the effect of...

"You Kennedys don't know what it is to sacrifice for your country."

That was the pivotal turning point in that race.

Oh my god, do I support Romney now?  j/k

I only watched the first two minutes but that video is stunning. It could really hurt him in the primary. My compassion is kicking in and I feel bad he's going to lose.

If I HAD TO, I'd rather have Romney as President than another Southern fried moron like Huckabee.

... until 1971.  He's been fairly consistent on pretty much everything since then.  Even if that were in any way important, I hardly think Ted Kennedy is a paragon of virtue to compare Romney to anyway, and in any case, Kennedy isn't running for president next year.
