With the ascension of Sweden and Finland to NATO, what other countries do you think should be allowed to join, if they want to?

Voted for those that are European, plus Israel, minus Russia and Belarus.  If we allow such places as Japan and Australia (which are fine countries) to join, NATO would need to change its name.

Why shouldn’t Mexico be able to join? It borders the North Atlantic, unlike Austria, Switzerland, etc.

Added a vote for them.

If it's on the Atlantic and the North Atlantic, why not?

Technically then, the only Europe countries that should count are Ireland, UK, Iceland, Denmark, France, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium...and the latter three only count if The North Sea does.

On the other side of the Atlantic, depending on if North means ALL of the Atlantic north of the Equator:  Various Carribean islands, Venezuela, Guyana,Suriname, Central America, Mexico, Colombia all count.

Likewise, if the U.S. broke apart, I would hope only The Eastern Seaboard states retain membership [maybe The South if The Gulf counts] . Let California scrounge up something with The Pacific.

...Or change the name to idk NHTO or EUNAA or NAEA...something to signify it's all of North America and Europe.

all of the liberal democracies that want in should be allowed in, change the name.  It would be awesome if the sh**t countries (PSOL's joke list) got better and joined too.

All European countries other than Russia/Belarus, plus any liberal democracy or strategically important country. And who cares if the name is no longer representative, like if Australia wanted to join absolutely they should be allowed.

Switzerland
Austria
Moldova
Ireland
Ukraine
Georgia
South Korea
Japan
Australia
New Zealand
Bosnia

I am absolutely a strong supporter of NATO becoming a global alliance, and thus all the countries currently in Europe that wish to join should be able, minus those who do not meet the standards that would be expected of alliance members (Russia, Belarus, Serbia), and other global partners in the Western Alliance should also be allowed to join.

PRC, Belarus, South Africa, Brazil, Israel, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. If we let all major powers into one alliance, there will be no war.

Voted (short term)

Switzerland
Austria
Ireland
Moldova
Ukraine
Mexico
Brazil
Argentina
Georgia
South Korea
Japan
Australia
New Zealand

For the above nations, i would vote yes, if i had a vote, and they requested it today and we had to vote today, regardless of countries that have territories that are "not under full control" as of now. I would ignore that and still offer NATO membership

For other nations, there first have to be some things done before they can but:
Israel
Cuba
Venezuela
South Africa
Saudi Arabia
India
Serbia
Bosnia
Iran

all should have a path to membership but first all of them need to solve a few things. Other nations are currently too distant from us ideologically or have to solve internal issues or other kind of issues (ideology, conflicts and so on).

I would also offer countries like Vietnam, Indonesia and Taiwan NATO membership if they wished to, as I think there would be a strategic benefit from that, even if it would anger China but I simply wouldn't care.

If i were elected president of United States, which is not possible and also not realistic, first thing I would do on january 20th is sign an executive order, fully recognizing Taiwan legitimately, guaranteeing to defend Taiwan in all circumstances possible and retreat from all international organizations that don't recognize Taiwan as an independent nation. For prospects of eventual war, i simply wouldn't care.

I however would have one requirement and that requirement would be Taiwan abandoning their claims on mainland China. And I also would request China to abandon claims on Taiwan, recognizing Taiwan as an independent nation, culturally distant from mainland China with "no claims or ties on mainland China".

If China pursues war, than war it would be. And if i had to send 1 billion people to China to fight China, i would.
