BTW, the worst parishes for this effect are West Carroll (Duke 69 Edwards 31, Blanco 55 Jindal 45) and Catahoula (Duke 55 Edwards 45 and Blanco 71 Jindal 29).
West Carroll had actually been Duke's best parish in the whole state (Duke lost 61-39 statewide, wheras Blanco won 52-48). Catahoula was the strongest Blanco parish to have voted for Duke.
Another interesting fact is that turnout in Orleans Parish was 16,000 votes higher in the 1991 Gubernatorial race than in the 1988 Presidential race, and even 2,000 votes higher than the 1992 Presidential race. I suppose nominating the former KKK Grand Wizard as the GOP nominee was a pretty good way to get out the black vote.
Edwards got about 21,000 more votes in Orleans Parish than any Democratic presidential nominee, even to this day, has ever gotten there (Kerry having the record on that front with about 152,000, whereas Edwards topped 173,000). Total votes cast in Orelans have also never matched the 1991 race in any Presidential race since, either.
