Let's say that before the 1956 Election, Stevenson was magically replaced by U.K Labour Party leader, Hugh Gaitskell.

And what would a map look like?

Sorry to top this really old thread but I found this an interesting scenario enough to post a reply. (Don't ask me how I found this thread - I was bored okay.)

Gaitskell would have done better than Stephenson imo - he would be a fresh face and would probably appear more in the south than an intellectual Unitarian like Stephenson. Though Gaitskell would probably be destroyed out in the west.
