Who is your favorite VP that did not later become President?

My favorite is William Rufus King; mainly because he is the only VP from Alabama, and since he spent his entire term in a Cuban hospital means he didn't screw anything up.

Haha, he doesn't have a county named after him! Smiley

There have been some good ones. I've always liked Thomas Marshall, Wilson's VP, but more for his sardonic wit than his statesmanship. One VP who always seems to get overlooked, but who had a reputation greater than any other in his day, was Garret Hobart, McKinley's first VP. He was so well-respected during his tenure, and so valued for his service to the administration, that he was often called the "Assistant President." But he died near the end of McKinley's first term. If not, he undoubtedly would have been renominated and re-elected along with McKinley, and would have become President when McKinley was assassinated. And Theodore Roosevelt may well never have become President at all.

As you can probably tell from my avatar, I really like Henry A. Wallace.  A close second is Al Gore.

In honor of his inauguration as Vice President, the newly formed Washington Territory named King County for him, as well as Pierce County after President Pierce, in hopes of gaining speedy admission to the Union by currying favor with the new administration (Washington did not become a state until 1889). Pierce and King Counties still exist, but on February 24, 1986 the King County Council passed Motion 6461, "setting forth the historical basis for the 'renaming' of King County in honor of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." On April 19, 2005, Washington Governor Christine Gregoire signed Senate Bill 5332 into law, formalizing the prior resolution and officially designating King County's name to be in honor of Martin Luther King.

Yes, that is what I was getting at.

Thank you. Although I had a tough time including Gore because it's hard recognizing the current buffoon as our President.

Edited: Didn't want to insult the Chimps.

Besides Dick Cheney, who I named previously in this thread, I also like Nelson Rockefeller.

A Rockefeller Presidency would have been activist and colorful.
