Interesting how the South really skews the national statistics.

49% of them reported that home foreclosures were a major problem in their community. Then and now, affordable housing is a huge winning issue for whichever party is smart enough to exploit it. Mark my words, whoever manages to meaningfully combat the housing crisis in this country will have an unbeatable machine on his side that rivals the New Deal coalition.

This. The statistics have likely changed dramatically over the past decade, and I'm sure WWC voters have been radicalized/Trumpified/become more conservative.

lol, could you hide your bigoted disdain for poor White people any worse?

Donald Trump is not a radical conservative.  Trump and his "movement" (inasmuch as he has one) was and still is in open war with the Tea Party/Heritage Foundation types.  The loudest criticisms of Trump from within the Republican Party have always come from his right.

I don't have "bigoted disdain for poor White people", or at least not too much of it. But it is a fact that in the Midwest and elsewhere, you have WWC voters who used to be sane and moderate and who perhaps supported Obama, who have in the Trump Era become very radical and completely Republican, even to the extent that many of them believe the Big Lie.

So 90% of my wife’s extended family. WWC, boned by Republican policy, helped by Democratic policies but steady dose of Fox in the past, now OANN and TikTok to hate “socialism” which they all use in some form but hate minorities so they’re ok. It’s really amazing.

Some democrats wanted to put a 10k refundable tax credit for down payments for first time home owners. That would be very popular

I actually disagree that this is a silver bullet, as much as I would love more affordable housing and it would benefit me personally. Lots of people benefit from the inflated housing market -- existing homeowners. And existing homeowners tend to be more frequent and reliable voters than other voters.

The Obama-Trump voters didn't somehow all regress and become more hickish/racist over the past 10 years.  Y'all were only ever happy to call the working class "sane and moderate" as long as they voted Democrat.

Decent people outnumber the NIMBYs. People in need of affordable housing are an untapped Electoral College juggernaut.

The working class in America is and always has been pretty stupid and conspiratorial, regardless of who they're voting for, unfortunately.

I shouldn't have said "Decent people" but rather people who are struggling with affordable housing outnumber people who bought houses 25 years ago and want to keep at the 2022 inflated value.
