that GA 8 and 12 are still really close...   I can't see Burns pulling an upset, but Mac Collins is almost there!  I'd like at least ONE Republican pickup this evening Tongue

both dems are ahead Barrow more than Marshall, but Marshall is leading by more than the CNN number indicates....GA-08 - 97% reporting
Mac Collins* (R)   77,995   49.4%
Jim Marshall* (D)   80,043   50.6%

If these two hold on this will be the first election ever where one party faield to defeat a single incumbent from the other party.

Patrick Kennedy (D) defeated incumbent Kevin Vigilante (R) in Rhode Island.

No, it did not. The Democrats knocked off 4 incumbent Republicans in '94.

I think there were other seats too, but that one is easier to spot, because it gave the state's delegation a pro-Democratic swing. Yes, Ted Kennedy's son made Rhode Island's Congressional delegation go all Democratic in 1994.

Not a single Republican incumbent lost in 1994, but the Democrats did pick up 4 Republican held open seats.

If the Republicans have indeed failed to pick up a single Democratic seat, it would be the first time since at least 1948 and maybe further back that one party would be completely shutout of any pickups in the House.

Even in 1894 the Democrats gained a lonely seat in South Carolina while losing 126 seats across the country. No major party has ever been shut out of gaining a seat in the House before, I think, at least as long as we've had Democrats and Republicans (presumably the Whigs lost everything one election, and the Federalists).
