... attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war...

Does he just pretend that McCain and the head of the American Legion hasn't called him out on this?
John McCain should go hide in the Hanoi Hilton. Hes a scumbag. American Legion president obviously doesnt see how its misconstrued. John Kerry fought in Vietnam, McCain surrendered to the enemy. I think we know who had better war skills. Too bad thats not politically correct.

Conan's uninformed attack on true war hero John McCain is as stupid as  Kerry's attack on the U.S. military.

As well, Conan's feeble back pedaling for his attack on McCain is about as ridiculous as Kerry's lame excuse that what he was saying was really a "botched joke."

If it wasn't clear to everyone before this, it should be crystal clear by now just why Kerry is not President of the United States, and why he will never be President of the United States.

Kerry's direct assault on the brave men and women of America's military is disgraceful and abhorrent.

We now know the true colors of this ultra leftist northeastern elitist condescending liberal.

Kerry's belated and forced "apology" forced from pressure within his own party, forced by Democrats who want nothing to do with Kerry and his disgusting remarks, is laughable.

John Kerry has become a pariah within the Democratic Party, and is blight on the nation.

So is this comment effecting anything other than the front page of Drudge Report?

Quite possibly the stupidest comments I have ever read on this forum.

How often do the wingnuts need to be reminded that John Kerry actually served ( he volunteered no less, unlike the draft-dodgers Bush and Cheney) in Vietnam and is himself a decorated war hero?

Anyone who still spews the lie that John Kerry was attacking the troops and not President Bush is either a lying hack or a f-ing moron or both. Period.

Aren't we overreacting just a little here? It was clearly a botched joke; he merely misread the original text of the speech. I do think he should have apologized immediately (or at least corrected himself during the speech), but mispeaking doesn't make you a "blight" on the nation.

This is old news. Believe what you want about liberals or John Kerry, it doesnt help you in the long run.

Well it's on the front page of the WaPo site now, I assume it will make the paper fairly prominently. So it's not quite "old news" since Kerry dragged it out through today.

Then why are 99% of those in the military at least high school grads?

memphis, you seem to know a lot of things that aren't true, and that tends to diminish your political views.

Do you really think high school education is an acceptable gauge of education level in this economy?

Well, it is still a fact, regardless of your delusions about the economy, that a huge proportion of poors do not finish high school, and that a great many people toil at jobs for which a high school diploma is not really necessary.

You probably suffer from the commonplace american error, encouraged by television, that most people are 'middle class'.. a lifestyle, as depicted in media and fiction that is enjoyed, at most, by 20% of the population.

What missing in the whole debate is the fact that Kerry was correct. Military service, which is nothing to be demeaned, is one of the few  options for those who do not finish school.  This is the same advice millions of parents have given their children.

Then why are 99% of those in the military at least high school grads?

memphis, you seem to know a lot of things that aren't true, and that tends to diminish your political views.

I was referring to college. I should have been clearer. Kerry was speaking to college students, so I assumed people would infer this. What do I know that's not true?

To me the most interesting facet of this is the media attention - very telling about that portion of corporate america.

How about this compared to macaca?

Precisely - this is recieving many times more attention than Allen's racist statement.

Was it Limbaugh or Hannity who called Max Cleland a "clumsy boob who couldn't handle a grenade"?

Sick, ain't it?

Neither of them, although for decades Cleland admitted as much.

A couple of points here... first of all, I thought you had to be a high-school graduate to be inducted into the military, so I would assume that 100% of people in the service are at least high-school graduates. Am I wrong?

Second, I hope everyone who complains about the liberal media are paying attention to the massive coverage of Kerry's blunder.

Third, I think the two most unintentionally funny reactions to it have come from the Vice-President and the President. The Vice-President, who stated that he didn't serve in Vietnam because he had "other priorities," accused Kerry of disrespect for the military in a speech yesterday. And the President stated that "Anyone who is in a position to serve this country ought to understand the consequences of words."

Well the story's already dying. I've been checking cnn.com lately to see what's on the front page and what the most popular story is. This has fallen to #8, and the front page story is about a Virginia sherriff and 12 deputies to sell drugs that they seized. By the time the weekend roles around, this story will be long done.

The story will, but the effect won't. It is incorporated into the overall picture, as for instance the Foley scandal was. What the net effect is, no one knows, obviously it's fairly marginal, but then again most aspects of a campaign take place in the margins.
